Eek! Here’s a 25% discount from Whistles until 9 October!

4 Oct

Cheer up, you’re eligible for a discount.

Oops. I had written this post and put it on the blog, but somehow the blurb got lost along the way.

Though it’s 12.45am and I’m half cut I can’t leave the blog floundering like that, so here goes again….

Basically, I was in Amersham today having a fantastic meal (but of that another time). After lunch my mum and I popped into the always fabulous Whistles and the lovely girl who works there, who I know a little bit, told me that it’s 25% off in Whistles if you bring in a voucher from Grazia magazine until 9 October.

So we trotted off for a Gracia and then my mum bought a grey woollen zipped dress (mother, you are rocking that look!) with £30 off the usual price. A discount worth having, don’t you think?

I have to say, I absolutely loved the leather goods in there today, really gorgeous ankle boots, and lots of fab slouchy tops and jumper dresses to take you into Winter. So if you’re in the mood for fashion, check out your local Whistles – Oxford, Marlow, John Lewis Milton Keynes, House of Fraser High Wycombe (any I’ve missed out?) – and spend 25% more than usual!

Well hellooooo, Amersham!

15 Nov

Hidden amongst the half-timber, Amersham's got the funk

Who’d have thunk it? I’ve just found a happening corner in genteel Amersham.

I forsee large amounts of money going astray in Market Square, as it’s the home of Coco Marie, a gorgeous little boutique full of lovely daywear in soft jerseys and wool, a small but perfectly formed accessories section and some of the slickest branded rails I’ve ever seen. Designers include my old faves Sass & Bide, plus Jo Brand, Juicy Couture and Project D (Dannii Minogue’s label). There’s an alteration service available and superhelpful staff to make you beam with gratitude as you part with your cash.

Sass & Bide 'If That Makes Sense' mulberry dress, £189

Soaked In Luxury Baxter cape, £59

You’re probably a bit peckish after your purchases. Head next door to elegant restaurant Artichoke, Good Food Guide’s Best New Entry 2011, and Rising Star in this year’s Michelin Guide.

Good enough for Raymond Blanc, good enough for me!

Need more convincing? Le Manoir had its Christmas party here last year so that tells you something about the quality of the food. Plus I love the crisp white tablecloths, clean lines and the cool signage. Yeah yeah I’m superficial, tell me something I don’t know…

Then (timing is everything here), head next door again to Whistles. Not open just yet but with the decorators in full flow it looks like a matter of weeks before my totally favourite fash chain store starts kerchinging the tills.

Also worth a gander: newly opened high-end interiors gifty shop Whippet Grey and finally the Old Amersham sweet shop to send you into a triumphant glycaemic frenzy.

OMG. I feel faint. Someone grab a credit card and start fanning me now.

Whistles rocks!

19 Feb
Is there anything better than a whopping fashion discount? (Hmm, let me think. Two weeks in Turks & Caicos, children in bed at 6pm, a lottery win, cake that makes you thinner, David Gandy wearing tight swimming trunks and coming my way …)
OK, so it seems that fashion is some way down my fantasy pecking order but I’m still chuffed to have stumbled on a 20% Whistles discount. It’s valid until March 3rd if you bring a March copy of Glamour magazine with you so it couldn’t be easier.
I have to admit I’m a bit in love with Whistles. Along with Reiss, it’s about as near to designer as the high street gets (hence the prices), so 20% off a Whistles dress is well worth exploiting. And this season’s clothes are really gorgeous and grown-up. Lots of camels, browns and nudes, loads of cute shoulder details on cardis and jersey tops, gorgeous just-above-the-knee dresses, flashes of seasonal colour and strong pattern. So here are a couple of highlights to whet your appetite…

Nancy print top, £75, in summer's cobalt - this is one of Whistles' biggest sellers this season

Belted peg trousers, £95, more flattering than you might expect!

Jungle cat pleated dress, £175. Animal magnetism without being tarty

I love this cammi frill skinny belt, £55. Perfect for cinching in a long cardi or shirt-dress

PS I reckon the staff at the Whistles High St, Oxford branch deserves a good service award. Not only did the duty manager and assistant tell me immediately about the Glamour discount (even though I was about to pay for something), they also let me use a gift voucher that was several months out of date, and also kept their sense of humour when Cassius, my unruly toddler, dashed around the store, grabbing hemlines and moving rails, while they patiently brought dozens of different clothes for me to try on. They were genuinely super nice. I’m going back, armed with my magazine, next week, so they can personally rack up my sale.
PPS Keep an eye out next week. I’ll be doing a round-up of the hottest spring/summer fashion trends and where to source the looks locally. xx
